Midnight Museum echoes and timing
Return a relic to the mint exit in a turn-based puzzle. Recorded past actions let echoes hold switches while you explore.
Before you play
- Twelve galleries, each with a 32-turn attempt limit.
- Collect the relic and return to the exit. A gem provides an additional star.
- Rewind records the current actions as an echo and restarts the attempt. At most two echoes are allowed.
- Waiting and whistling consume turns; movement blocked by walls or closed doors does not.
- Guard sight and active lasers cause failure. Lasers alternate two turns on, two off.
Playing a hand
- Locate the exit, relic, plates and gates.
- Move or wait to synchronize with guards and echoes.
- Record a walk to a plate, rewind, then use the replaying echo to open your route.
- Bring the relic back to the exit. Undo or restart to revise a failed route.
A worked play example
- Gallery 2: exit → Up ×4 → plate A
- Rewind → echo replays the four steps
- Echo holds plate / you cross the gate
Record your first useful echo
In gallery two, Someone stays behind, four upward steps from the exit reach the upper-left A plate. Rewind after those steps. The echo repeats them and stays at its final position after its recording ends.
Leaving the plate yourself closes the gate; assigning it to an echo keeps it open. Later rooms require two separate plate recordings. You cannot add a third echo, so restart if your recordings are not useful.
Timing and the third star
Danger uses the guard position and laser phase after your action. A dark laser now may be active next turn. Waiting advances echoes and guards too; it is not a pause.
Completion earns one star, the gem another. The final star requires current turns plus all recorded action lengths to stay within the room's target. Rewinding resets the attempt clock but does not erase recorded effort from this calculation.
Whistling turns a nearby guard's gaze for one turn. Echoes reproduce recorded whistles, so repeated whistles from a plate can create time to cross a guarded route.
