DOGEPY · HOUSE RULES

Minesweeper clues, flags and chording

A clue counts mines in up to eight adjacent cells. Win by uncovering safe cells, not by placing the most flags.

Before you play

  • Levels: 8×8/10, 10×10/15, 12×12/25, 14×14/40 and 16×16/55 mines.
  • The first revealed cell and its neighbors are protected from mines.
  • Zero clues automatically open connected safe areas.
  • Flags are your estimates; incorrect flags are not corrected automatically.
  • Reveal every non-mine cell to win. Revealing a mine loses.

Playing a hand

  1. Choose a level and reveal your first cell.
  2. Count closed neighbors and flag proven mines.
  3. On mobile switch to flag mode, then back to reveal mode for safe cells.
  4. Click an open number to reveal its remaining neighbors when adjacent flag count matches the clue.

A worked play example

  1. Clue 1 + one closed neighbor → mine
  2. Clue 1 + one proven mine → others safe
  3. Guessed flag + chord → possible loss
Matching the flag count does not prove that the flagged positions are correct.

Two deductions from a one

If a clue of one has only one closed neighbor, that neighbor is a mine. If its one mine is already proven and flagged, the other adjacent cells are safe.

A guessed flag does not prove safety. Chording checks only the flag count, so a wrongly placed flag can cause it to reveal a mine.

A safe start is not a no-guess guarantee

The first area is protected, but the generator does not guarantee that every later position can be solved without guessing. Compare neighboring clues before deciding what is known.

You need not flag every mine to win. A flag on a safe cell prevents it from opening; inspect remaining flags if the board does not finish.
